On August 1st, Muovere Dance Company held an open backstage rehearsal of the show “Brief Pieces for a Marginal Dance” in partnership with Adjunct Professor Doris Dornelles.
The work investigates how non-standard bodies inhabit the contemporary dance scene, traversing memories and challenging boundaries. Through fragmentation, pauses, and repetitions, the performance proposes a choreographic experience between rupture and permanence—a dance born from the margins, without asking permission.
Muovere Dance Company premieres its latest creation in August: “Brief Pieces for a Marginal Dance,” a show that will occupy the Teatro Oficina Olga Reverbel, in the Eva Sopher Multistage Complex of the Theatro São Pedro, in Porto Alegre-RS.
Created for indoor and outdoor spaces, the performance presents a poetics of the body born from the friction between memory and intermittency. As the name itself suggests, “Brief Pieces” is composed of choreographic fragments structured through interruptions: they cease, restart, discontinue, and intercut. Here, there is no narrative linearity – what we see are flashes, noises, cuts. Appearances that reject the comfort of finished form.
Each piece carries traces of something that has already been lived. By repeating itself, this material reinvents itself – summoning memory not as an archive, but as desire. The performance listens to and revisits the company's trajectory, between echoes of the past, pulses of the present, and projections of what is to come.
This dance that inhabits the edges also brings a critical acidity that is revealed in the subtext, not through direct discourse. It dances in what remains, in what escapes, in what burns. Marginality, in this context, is a method of creation, an aesthetic choice of positioning. The body, then, becomes a document – a territory of deviation and affirmation.
With “Brief Pieces for a Marginal Dance,” Muovere reaffirms its authorial, investigative trajectory, committed to the power of the body in its most intense modes of presence.
Directed by Jussara Miranda and with artistic direction by Diego Mac, “Brief Pieces for a Marginal Dance” continues Muovere's investigative trajectory, consolidating its presence on the national contemporary scene through the Funarte Program for Support of Ongoing Actions 2023 - Artistic Groups and Collectives.
